Waking Crow

Ceremonial photography. Contemplative poetry. Prose memoir. Music.

Sierra Nevada foothills, Northern California.

This body of work is forty years in the making — photographs that function as portals, poems that rise out of the ethers, and prose that moves through the gritty terrain of life.

Waking Crow is the working name of a multimodal artist, poet, and photographer working and living in the ancient Nisenan Lands that border the Tahoe National Forest. His practice is rooted in a single operating premise: that consciousness does not originate from the mind, but underpins our very reality. The work follows from that.

Artist Statement

Waking Crow — wakingcrow.com

I am the light — defining my shadows.

Art is play.

Expressions are truths that shape meaning.

I consider the mundane as one with the sublime, beauty wears many masks.

I remove the you from your world, momentarily, to reveal a glimpse of who you are becoming, who you always were…

The embodiment of consciousness, standing in awe of this grand cathedral of life.

I offer myself in sacrifice.

I descend and return, bringing forth light that once hid in shadows.
